Huawei Mobile Services Strengthens its Footprint in APAC Market

Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) is set to reinforce its position in developing HUAWEI Ecosystem – an all-scenario, fully-connected smart living. At the APAC HUAWEI Developer Day, HMS revealed a wide range of developer incentive programmes and open capabilities, showing its determination in growing quality content on the platform. At the same time, it also introduced new services and user benefits in the APAC market to further enhance the user experience.

HMS is now servicing the global market with HUAWEI AppGallery, HUAWEI ID, HUAWEI Themes, HUAWEI Assistant, HUAWEI Mobile Cloud and more. To date, it covers more than 570 million global users across 170 countries and regions.
“Huawei Mobile Services is growing steadily worldwide. For example, HUAWEI AppGallery started its global service since April 2018, while in less than two years, we have already garnered more than 390 million average monthly active users (MAU) with total downloads of 180 billion times yearly,” said Zhang Ping’an, President, Huawei Consumer Cloud Service.
Through HUAWEI AppGallery, users can search and download mobile apps from 18 different categories including Games, Education, Lifestyle, Daily Essential, and Fashion. At present, more than 1.07 million developers have registered as HUAWEI Developer, and over 50,000 apps have already integrated to the HMS Core.
A Proactive Approach to Secure Quality Contents
To sustain this upward trend, HMS is now focusing on onboarding high-quality apps and services onto HUAWEI AppGallery, taking into the consideration of the consistent global experiences and unique local features that are available for the users.
“We are now taking a proactive approach to reach out to e-hailing, financial services, education, food and beverage, entertainment and lifestyle service providers in each country, to enhance our platform’s contents progressively. Moreover, users can continue to enjoy more exclusive services and rewards to maximise their experience with HUAWEI,” continued Zhang Ping’an.
Reinforcing the Developer Supports
Huawei Mobile Services has rolled out different programmes to invest in the growth of its developer community. As announced in August this year, a total of USD 1 billion has been invested in the HUAWEI Shining-Star Programme to support mobile app developers all around the world. Shining-Star Programme will provide training, innovation supports, and marketing resources to apps and services relating to AI, AR/VR, and IoT. Developers who are eligible for the programme will be given priority to access HUAWEI’s new open capabilities and receive incentive support in marketing their products and services.
Huawei Mobile Services has also opened up its chipset-device-cloud capabilities to the global developers, which grants developers full access to 24 HMS Core kits, 55 services and 997 APIs. HMS open capabilities cover various development scenarios with services such as Map, In-App Purchases (IAP), HiAi, AR and VR.
Developers only need to integrate the HMS Ecosystem once, then distribute their service across HUAWEI smart devices to reach global users.
To empower developers with HMS open capabilities, HUAWEI Developer Day (HDD) will be held in different cities across the APAC region. It covers code labs, tech-trend analysis, case studies and the latest industry insights. Developers can meet HUAWEI’s tech experts and get hands-on support for integrating HMS into their apps.
There are also student incubation programmes such as DigiX Geek Contest, AI internship and campus ambassador to be rolled out under the Shining-Star initiative. The company aims to encourage innovations among young developers and support them to take part of building the HUAWEI ecosystem.
“Echoing HMS’ vision to build an all-scenario smart living for all, we will continue to strengthen our partnerships with quality content providers to offer more exclusive services and rewards for HUAWEI users,” said Zhang Ping’an.
