Police Officer Dismissed Over Relationship with Actress Parimoni
Former Detective Branch (DB) officer Mohammad Golam Saklayen has been compulsorily retired by the government over allegations of misconduct stemming from his relationship with popular Bangladeshi film actress Parimoni.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday, Saklayen, who was serving as Additional Superintendent of Police at the Jhenaidah In-Service Training Centre, has been sent on forced retirement by order of the President.
The order, signed by Senior Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury of the Ministry’s Discipline-2 Branch, cites “misconduct” as the reason for the action.
Evidence from Mobile Phone Forensics
The decision follows a departmental investigation in which forensic analysis of Saklayen’s mobile phone reportedly showed multiple instances of him being present at Parimoni’s residence at various times of the day and night. The Ministry began disciplinary proceedings against him in June 2024 after receiving the forensic report. The Public Service Commission (PSC) was also consulted before the final decision was made.
How the Relationship Began
The connection between Saklayen and Parimoni traces back to the high-profile Boat Club incident in 2021. On June 13, 2021, Parimoni was allegedly assaulted and attempted to be raped at the Savar Boat Club. She filed a case against businessman Nasiruddin Mahmud and others.
The following day, while interrogating the arrested suspects at the DB office, then Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DB Gulshan Division, Golam Saklayen, came into contact with Parimoni. Sources say that after the initial meeting, Saklayen began visiting Parimoni’s residence regularly. The pair were also reportedly seen together in a car on several occasions.
Parimoni once stayed at Saklayen’s official residence in Madhumati Bhaban, Rajarbagh, for nearly 18 hours. During her arrest on August 4, 2021, Parimoni herself acknowledged her relationship with the officer.
### Action Taken for “Breach of Discipline”
A senior police official said the government took the action after the allegations were substantiated. Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun reportedly emphasized that the force maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any unethical conduct by its members.
Saklayen, a married officer and father, was previously considered a promising officer in the Detective Branch. His removal has sparked widespread discussion about discipline and professionalism within the police force.
### Parimoni’s Reaction
Reacting to the news, Parimoni said she felt sorry for Saklayen and claimed in the past that he had become a victim of personal vendetta. She has not issued any fresh statement following today’s official notification.
The case has once again brought the 2021 Boat Club incident and its aftermath into the spotlight, with many questioning the boundaries between personal relationships and professional responsibilities for public servants.
