Uber, the world’s largest on-demand ridesharing company, today announced the launch of a first-of-its kind insurance program for riders and driver partners. The policy will provide both riders and driver partners with free coverage for accidental death, permanent disablement and hospitalization in case of an accident while on-trip using the Uber App.

“This announcement is a reflection of our efforts to meaningfully impact and improve the Uber experience. We are deeply humbled by the love and support we have received from our rider and drivers in Bangladesh and this announcement is a reiteration of our commitment to them. As ridesharing as a concept becomes more popular and is embraced by more and more people, this first-of-its-kind insurance policy will be a pioneer in shaping the future of the industry” said Prabhjeet Singh, Regional General Manager, Uber.

What’s in the policy for riders

Riders of UberMOTO and Uber 4-wheeler vehicles will receive coverage for accidental death, permanent disablement and hospitalization for in-patient medical treatment in case of an accident while using the Uber App and are available from when the rider starts the trip till the end of it.

The coverage offered includes BDT 2 lakhs in the event of accidental death, up to BDT 2 lakhs for permanent disability, up to BDT 1 lakh in the event of hospitalization.

What’s in the policy for driver partners:

The first-of-its-kind insurance program will provide driver partners (aged up to 70 years) of motorbikes and four-wheeled vehicles intended to carry passengers with coverage for accidental death, permanent disablement and hospitalization for in-patient medical treatment in case of an accident while using the Uber App and are available for when the driver partner is en route after accepting a trip request till the end of the trip. The unique insurance cover will be offered for free to the driver partners, giving them peace of mind while enjoying the flexibility of independent work.

The coverage offered includes BDT 2 lakhs in the event of accidental death, up to BDT 2 lakhs for permanent disability, up to BDT 1 lakh in the event of hospitalization.

About Uber

Uber’s mission is to bring reliable transportation to everywhere, for everyone. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get a ride at the touch of a button? Eight years and more than five billion trips later, we’ve started tackling an even greater challenge: reducing congestion and pollution in our cities by getting more people into fewer cars.
