TikToker Ridoy Khan Arrested for Harassing Women in Savar

Police in Savar have arrested a young man, Khalid Mahmud, popularly known as Ridoy Khan, for allegedly harassing women and making misogynistic remarks in public. The arrest was made on Monday afternoon from Aminbazar area in Savar, following widespread outrage over videos of his actions circulating on social media.

According to a press release from the Dhaka District Police, Ridoy Khan was detained after multiple complaints were filed against him for harassing women, including school and college-going girls, in various locations across Savar. Videos shared on social media show him blocking the paths of women and young girls, making inappropriate gestures, and using offensive language. In some instances, he was seen lecturing women on what they should wear, while in others, he allegedly threatened them with the fear of rape.

The videos sparked widespread condemnation, with netizens demanding legal action against him. A Facebook page named “JU Insider” identified the accused as Khalid Mahmud alias Ridoy Khan, a resident of Savar, and called for immediate action against him. The page accused him of regularly harassing and intimidating young girls on the streets.

Raju Nurul, a Facebook user, also shared a video of Ridoy Khan, stating that he initially thought the man might be mentally unstable. However, after observing his consistent pattern of behavior, he concluded that Ridoy Khan was deliberately targeting and harassing women.

During a press conference held at Savar Model Police Station on Monday evening, Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Md. Shahinur Kabir confirmed the arrest. He stated that Ridoy Khan was detained for attempting to incite violence against women and promoting misogynistic ideologies. The accused, who is a TikToker, used social media platforms to demean women and spread harmful messages, including blaming women for rape.

Police are currently investigating the matter, and legal proceedings are underway. The arrest has been welcomed by many, who see it as a step towards ensuring the safety and dignity of women in public spaces.

Ridoy Khan’s actions have reignited discussions about the need for stricter enforcement of laws against harassment and the role of social media in holding perpetrators accountable. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any such incidents to ensure swift action.

This incident highlights the growing concern over the safety of women in Bangladesh and the importance of addressing gender-based violence through both legal and societal measures.
