ICC Bans Bangladesh Women’s Cricketer Soheli Akter for Five Years for Match-Fixing

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Bangladesh women’s cricketer Soheli Akter from all forms of cricket for five years after she admitted to breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

Soheli was found guilty of several offenses related to match-fixing, including approaching a participant to influence a match, soliciting corrupt conduct, failing to disclose approaches, obstructing the investigation, and failing to cooperate.

The 36-year-old off-spinner last played for Bangladesh in the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup, returning to the national side after eight years. She has played two ODIs and 13 T20Is.

The ICC confirmed Soheli accepted the charges and sanction, with the ban backdated to February 10, 2025. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) acknowledged the decision and will implement the ban.

This incident is a blow to Bangladesh cricket, raising concerns about integrity. The BCB is likely to conduct its own investigation.
