Australian cricket star Steve Smith has announced his retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket. His final ODI appearance was the recent semi-final match against India in the Champions Trophy.

Smith cited the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup as a key factor in his decision, stating, “Now is a good time to start preparing for Australia’s 2027 World Cup campaign, so it feels like the right moment to step aside. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’ve loved every minute of it. There have been some amazing times and some great memories. Winning two World Cups was a definite highlight, along with sharing the journey with so many great teammates.”
He emphasized his continued focus on Test cricket, expressing his eagerness for the World Test Championship final, the tour of the West Indies, and the subsequent series against England at home.
Smith’s 5800 ODI runs place him 12th on Australia’s all-time ODI run-scorers list. Among Australian players, only five have scored more ODI centuries, and only David Warner boasts a higher batting average.
