Pathao & Uber launch joint campaign to build a safer rideshare industry

Pathao and Uber today announced a joint campaign to raise the bar higher on safety standards for the Bangladesh ridesharing industry while enhancing experience for customers.

During the first phase of this industry first collaboration, Uber and Pathao will come together to raise awareness about various existing rideshare safety mechanisms and measures, available on both the platforms. These include trackable, insured rides with verified details of the drivers and vehicles, and stringent mandatory document validation standards which the companies believe make ridesharing trips a safer method of transportation. Approved and regulated by the authorities, ridesharing options are a convenient and safer mobility option, unlocking opportunities for both drivers and riders alike.

During this phase, Pathao and Uber will also roll out a common driver partner training module to the entire base of drivers on their platforms. The goal is to educate driver partners about how they can help ensure their own safety as well as the safety of riders. The training module will include general guidelines for motor vehicle movement, traffic signs and how to use them, implications of violating traffic and road safety rules, and various other relevant topics in accordance with the regulations.

Fahim Ahmed, CEO of Pathao said, “We have always prioritized the safety of our riders and passengers and undertaken different collaborative approaches with government and non-government entities. We strongly believe that this collaboration with Uber will help us to set a higher industry standard for safety and ensure quality rides for all.”

Armanur Rahman, Head of Bangladesh & East India, Uber, said, “Safety and magical user experience have always been our top priority. Since its inception, the ridesharing industry has gained people’s trust and confidence successfully because of the safety and convenience we provide during every ride. Today, we are thrilled to join hands with Pathao to raise that bar even higher. By taking bold, transparent steps as a company, we’ve not only strived to improve the safety of our own platform but also set new industry standards for safety. We also partner closely with the regulators and key policy stakeholders and are aligned to their goal of making ridesharing safer for the people of Bangladesh, our riders and drivers.”

Since its inception, the ridesharing industry has been partnering closely with all stakeholders and regulators to reimagine the mobility landscape by providing convenient and safer commuting solutions at the tap of a button. Ridesharing has become a popular option for local transportation, largely because of the safety features it incorporates. And this is just the beginning of a long term collaboration between Uber and Pathao, aimed at continually raising the bar in the industry towards enhancing rider and driver experience on respective platforms.

About Pathao
Established in 2015, Pathao has been playing a major role in creating new opportunities, empowering the common people, and improving the quality of life by building digital infrastructure in Bangladesh. Pathao is the largest digital service platform in Bangladesh and a pioneer company in ride-sharing, food delivery and e-commerce logistics services. With a vast network of more than 8 million customers and 3 hundred thousand riders-delivery agents, 40,000 merchants and 10,000 restaurants, Pathao is sketching novel footprints in the journey of prosperous Bangladesh.
About Uber
Uber’s mission is to create opportunity through movement. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get access to a ride at the touch of a button? More than 15 billion trips later, we’re building products to get people closer to where they want to be. By changing how people, food, and things move through cities, Uber is a platform that opens up the world to new possibilities.
