Xiaomi launches Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A in Bangladesh

Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A are the first smartphones in this price range to use a 12nm platform to achieve balanced performance and power consumption

Xiaomi, India’s number 1 smartphone brand today introduced the incredibly accessible Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A today in Bangladesh. Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A feature the Helio P22 and Helio A22 chipsets respectively, both of which bring the 12nm process to a new segment.

Redmi 6A is the successor to Redmi 5A, being the best selling Android phone globally in Q1 2018 according to Counterpoint Research.

Sanket Agarwal, Head – Overseas expansion, Indian sub continent, Xiaomi India said, “At Xiaomi, we always thrive to push our boundaries and make higher level innovation accessible to all our users at honest pricing. We are proud to be bringing Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 to the market which establishes our true philosophy. With the only smartphones in its segment with 12nm architecture – we hope Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 will be worthy successors in the market with their performance.”

Redmi 6 – Dual camera, octa-core speed

Redmi 6 sports the latest Helio P22 octa-core SoC that uses an ultra-efficient 12nm processor, which consumes about 48% lesser power than comparable 28nm chipsets. It pairs a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 up to 2.0GHz with an IMG PowerVR GE-class GPU. CPU and GPU performance are up to an impressive 30% and 72% faster respectively than competitor alternatives.

Redmi 6 has a 5.45-inch 18:9 Full Screen Display with an HD+ resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. Its polycarbonate back panel has a look and feels akin to a brushed metal surface, and sports an arc design which symmetrically curves and gently tapers towards the edges, providing a great handfeel.

Redmi 6 has a 12MP + 5MP AI dual camera setup on the rear. The main sensor has 1.25µm large pixels—the largest among popular smartphones in this price range. Larger pixels take in more light than smaller ones, a huge advantage for improving photo quality and reducing noise, especially in low-light conditions. It also uses phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) to improve focusing speed so users won’t miss capturing important moments and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). The 5MP front camera of Redmi 6 is supported by Xiaomi’s AI Portrait mode, which renders a realistic bokeh effect with a single lens.

Out of the box, Redmi 6 runs Android Oreo-based MIUI 9.6, which comes with support for Full Screen Gestures to make best use of the screen. In the coming months, Redmi 6 will be upgraded to MIUI 10.

Redmi 6 comes in 3GB + 32GB variant priced at BDT 12,999 and will go on sale nationwide on 19th September, 2018.

BDT 9,999 Redmi 6A offers great value

Redmi 6A adopts a similar design language and screen as Redmi 6 – 5.45” 18:9 Full Screen Display with an HD+ resolution. It sports the Helio A22 SoC which makes Redmi 6A the only smartphone in this segment with a 12nm processor. Redmi 6A’s 3000mAh all-day battery allows the phone to stay in standby mode for up to 9 days.

Redmi 6A has a 13MP rear camera featuring phase detection autofocus with Electronic Image Stabilization and a 5MP front camera—capable of using Xiaomi’s AI Portrait mode. Redmi 6A comes with MIUI 9.6 based on Android O which has also been optimized, reducing system apps’ memory usage by nearly 30%.

Redmi 6A features AI Face Unlock for fast unlocking which will come in an OTA soon. Users can also choose to enable raise to wake to make it more convenient. Following the legacy from Redmi 5A, Redmi 6A also features a dedicated microSD slot besides a dual SIM slot. In addition, Redmi 6A offers dual 4G capabilities.

It runs MIUI 9.6 based on Android Oreo, but an update to MIUI 10 will make its way in the coming months.

Redmi 6A comes in 2GB + 16GB variant for BDT 9,999 and it will go on sale on nationwide on 17th September.
