Kaspersky predicts AI and privacy to shape consumer cybersecurity landscape in 2025

Kaspersky’s Kaspersky Security Bulletin forecasts major cybersecurity trends for 2025. Artificial intelligence will become a daily utility through platforms like iOS and Android, though challenges like sophisticated deepfakes will emerge. Privacy regulations are expected to strengthen, inspired by GDPR and CPRA, enabling data monetization and seamless transfer, with decentralized storage boosting user control. Cybercriminals are likely to target premieres, such as Civilization VII and Jurassic World Rebirth, with phishing and fake pre-orders. Political polarization, amplified by AI tools, may escalate cyberbullying globally. The rise of subscription-based services will drive fraud involving fake promotions and counterfeit platforms, risking identity theft and malware. Australia’s proposed ban on social media for children under 16 could set a precedent for stricter online regulations, as platforms adopt AI age-verification systems. “As we look to 2025, the most significant impact on consumers is expected to arise from the intersection of innovation and regulation. Advances in artificial intelligence, privacy protection, and data ownership frameworks will reshape the way people interact with technology and manage their digital lives. These developments hold immense potential but also demand careful oversight to ensure they serve consumer interests,” said Anna Larkina, Kaspersky privacy expert.

To stay safe online, Kaspersky experts recommend enabling safe browsing features, like those in Kaspersky Premium, to block dangerous sites, malware, and tracking. Use services such as Privacy Checker to adjust social network privacy settings and secure personal accounts. Opt for secure connections by avoiding public Wi-Fi for sensitive activities and using a reliable VPN to encrypt your online activity. Download apps only from official stores like the Apple App Store or Google Play, which offer better security through app filtration. Install a reliable security solution to detect malicious apps and adware early. Avoid sharing sensitive smart device information, like serial numbers or IP addresses, on social networks. Lastly, use strong, unique passwords and consider a tool like Kaspersky Password Manager for added convenience and protection.
