Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Raises Concerns Over Bangladesh with US President Donald Trump

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his concerns to US President Donald Trump regarding recent developments in Bangladesh. During their meeting at the White House in Washington, DC, on Thursday, Modi shared India’s perspective on the situation in Bangladesh, highlighting the issues that have raised concerns in New Delhi.

The meeting between the two leaders covered a range of bilateral, regional, and global issues. Following the discussions, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a press briefing in Washington, where he revealed that the situation in Bangladesh was one of the key topics discussed between Modi and Trump.

Misri stated, “Prime Minister Modi shared his views, and indeed his concerns, about recent developments in Bangladesh. He also explained how India perceives the current situation in the country.” The Indian Foreign Secretary added, “We hope that the situation in Bangladesh will evolve in a manner that allows us to maintain a constructive and stable relationship with them.”

However, Misri emphasized that India has significant concerns regarding the developments in Bangladesh, which Modi conveyed to President Trump.

The political landscape in Bangladesh has been tense since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, following a student-led uprising. Hasina fled to India after her government was ousted, leading to a deterioration in India-Bangladesh relations. New Delhi has accused the interim government in Bangladesh of failing to protect minority communities, particularly Hindus, from targeted attacks.

The situation remains a matter of concern for India, as it seeks to ensure stability and constructive engagement with its neighbor.
