Dhaka Traffic Crisis: Chief Adviser Directs Immediate Solutions, BUET Experts and DMP Collaborate

Traffic police have been instructed to implement pilot anti-congestion measures, including limiting bus stoppage times to under two minutes at key stations on select roads, with plans to expand these efforts citywide.

Experts from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have been tasked with developing home-grown solutions, using students to design improvements in one traffic corridor. They will also work on fixing the city’s signaling system through local expertise, according to the Chief Adviser’s press wing.

During a meeting, Professor Moazzem Hossain of BUET, a transportation expert, revealed that Dhaka’s traffic congestion costs the country over Taka 40,000 crore annually.

Additional Commissioner Kh Nazmul Hassan of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) reported that traffic conditions have improved recently due to the increased presence of traffic police, with full deployment expected by the end of next week.

Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, BUET Professor Md. Hadiuzzaman, and Additional Commissioner of DMP Faruk Ahmed also contributed to the discussion.
