15 Bangladeshi students win Top in the World award in Cambridge International exams

Fifteen students from Bangladesh received ‘Top in the World’ awards at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards programme, jointly hosted by the British Council in Bangladesh and Cambridge International Education.

Students were recognised for their outstanding performance in the June 2023 Cambridge examination series. The ceremony took place on March 07, 2024, at Radisson Blu, Dhaka.

Cambridge International Education has awarded a total of 67 Bangladeshi students with 79 Awards at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards (OCLA) in 2023.

The global awards celebrate the highest-performing students around the world. Every year, over a million students worldwide study courses organised by Cambridge International Education, which has been conducting international exams for over 160 years.

The awards distinguish success in four categories: Top in the World, High Achievement Award, Top in Country, and Best Across.

Fifteen Bangladeshi students got recognition for ‘Top in the World’ awards, which means that the learners have attained the highest marks in the world in a specific subject.

Of these fifteen winners, eleven students won the award for their subjects across Cambridge O Level, Cambridge International AS & A Level, and Cambridge IGCSE.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Matt Cannell, Acting British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, who attended it as the Chief Guest.

Among others, Arun Rajamani, Managing Director, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, South Asia; David Knox, Director of Programmes, British Council; Maxim Raimann, Exams Director, British Council, Bangladesh; Shahin Reza, Country Manager, Bangladesh, Cambridge International Education; Zunayed Ahmed, Director Operations, Examinations, British Council; and Sarwat Reza, Director, Business Development, British Council, Bangladesh were also present in the event.

Matt Cannell, Acting British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, said, “I commend Cambridge International for investing in international education and bringing the skills and experience back to Bangladesh, shaping the country’s vibrant and diverse future.

There are many global opportunities, and the UK has one of the best educational opportunities worldwide; some of our universities are renowned for science, business, academia and social issues. The world is fast-paced now, with significant challenges around the globe.

To all the brilliant students, I see your skills in combating them. Good luck, achieve your dreams, and have your own confidence.”

Arun Rajamani, Managing Director, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, South Asia, said, “We wholeheartedly congratulate the winners for their continuous efforts.

Their remarkable efficaciousness overjoys us. By excelling in STEM, the learners have also performed extremely well in subjects like English, Art & Design, Accounting, and Bengali.

Cambridge Education is committed to supporting schools to help their students become responsible, confident, innovative, engaged, reflective, and fulfil their potential.

We also want to convey our special thanks to all the educators and parents who guided and supported the students through their learning process and helped them attain success.”

Maxim Raiman, Exams Director at the British Council in Bangladesh, said, “We are honoured to come together with Cambridge International to host the ‘Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards’ ceremony to acknowledge the exceptional students who demonstrated excellence in the Cambridge International exams held in June 2023.

Witnessing numerous students from Bangladesh honoured as top performers in different categories fills us with immense pride.

The British Council supports esteemed organisations like Cambridge in exam delivery, teacher training, and school leadership best practice, offering innovative and adaptable solutions that empower candidates to unleash their utmost potential.”
