Uber launches in Rangpur; Expands business to all 8 Divisions of Bangladesh

Uber today announced it has begun serving riders and drivers in Rangpur, marking the company’s expansion to all the eight Divisions of Bangladesh. Uber rode into Rangpur with one of its most popular products, Uber Moto. Bangladesh is one of the largest Moto markets for Uber, and the Rangpur launch is a reiteration of the popularity of the product.

Launched in 2016, Uber quickly became the ride sharing platform of choice in Bangladesh by offering convenient, affordable and safe ways to go from point A to point B. Bangladesh also represents a tremendous opportunity for the company. Since its launch 5 years ago, it has served over 4.9 million riders and almost 200,000 driver partners, till date.

The Rangpur launch will not only help riders to experience hassle-free, affordable and safe commutes but also unlock meaningful earning opportunities for driver partners. Uber’s goal is to provide a seamless commuting experience for the people of Rangpur – anytime, anywhere.

Besides creating micro-entrepreneurship opportunities in 2021, Uber provided 25,000 free rides for vaccination to frontline healthcare workers and elderly and vulnerable citizens through its partnership with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. Additionally, it provided 50,000 free rides for vaccination to all riders and residents of Dhaka. Recently, it ran a campaign to raise awareness to reduce noise pollution by encouraging drivers to honk responsibly.

Commenting on the launch, Armanur Rahman, Head of Bangladesh & East India, Uber, said “We are thrilled and excited to expand our horizon to a new region at the very beginning of this New Year. Over the years, Uber has changed how the world moves by powering billions of rides and deliveries, connecting millions of riders, businesses, drivers, and couriers across the world at a scale like no other. With this launch in Rangpur today, we have achieved the milestone of expanding our operations to all the eight Divisions of Bangladesh. This wouldn’t have been possible without the love and support from riders and drivers on our platform, and the support of local authorities. Our Bangladesh journey is only just beginning and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones in the years to come by combining global technological excellence with local knowledge and insights.”
