Uber granted license by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA)

Uber the world’s largest personal mobility company, received its Ridesharing Service Provider Enlistment Certificate by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) today. The license has been granted to Uber after meeting specific criteria laid down by the Ride-sharing Service Guidelines 2017.

On receiving the license, Ratul Ghosh, Head of East India and Bangladesh, said, “Today is a great day for Uber, here in Bangladesh. We are thankful for all the cooperation and support that we have received from the BRTA and the Government of Bangladesh. We will continue to bring the benefits of ridesharing to transform the mobility landscape of the country. Going forward we want to leverage our technology to provide innovative products and offerings to serve our riders, drivers and cities and address the challenges they face today. Our license in Bangladesh is the first step in that direction to realize our vision of building smarter mobility, better cities and healthier lives in Bangladesh.”

As the first ridesharing company to commence operations in Bangladesh in 2016, Uber has revolutionised the way Bangladeshis travel from point A to B. With multi-modal transport options including premium cars, CNG, Moto, intercity services across cities like Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet, Uber has managed to gain loyal customers at every price point. By providing reliable, affordable and safe transport options at the touch of a button, Uber’s vision for the future of mobility is to help leapfrog private car ownership.

Just last month Uber celebrated three years of operations in the country. The anniversary also marked the launch of Uber’s latest service offering, UberPOOL in Dhaka which aims to decongest the capital by putting more people in fewer cars. With millions of trips completed and thousands of new weekly partner sign ups, Bangladesh is one of the key markets for Uber’s global portfolio.
