India will help to develop Startup ecosystem in Bangladesh

India is keen to work with Bangladesh to take bilateral ties in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector to the next level. This was stated at a meeting of H.E. Mr. Vikram K Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh with Mr. Russell T. Ahmed, President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) on Wednesday at Baridhara.

At the meeting, Vikram K Doraiswami said, “We are very much interested in joining hands with Bangladesh to develop the human resource and young talent pool of its ICT sector.” He also said, “India will contribute to help BASIS in creating a start-up ecosystem in Bangladesh.”

Russell T. Ahmed said, “Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared ICT as ‘The Product of the Year’ for the year 2022. Aligning with that, BASIS has started working to excel the ICT industry further focusing on seven pillars: make human resources future-proof, develop local industry, develop foreign markets, increase access to capital & fiscal incentives, create a thriving ecosystem for startups, formulate policies to help grow intangible assets and promote the industry.

Responding to that, the High Commissioner of India H.E. Mr. Vikram Doraiswami appreciated the initiatives of BASIS for taking forward Bangladesh ICT industry along with the Government. He mentioned that, he is very keen to come forward about creating a bridge between Bangladesh and Indian ICT industries.

High Commission of India and BASIS together can consider organizing thematic seminars, webinars on Startup Ecosystem for disseminating the Indian ICT startup success stories. BASIS also invited Indian software companies to take part in the nest BASIS Softexpo.

The meeting was also attended by Commercial Officer of Indian High Commission Dr. Pramyesh Basall, BASIS Senior Vice President Samira Zuberi Himika, BASIS Vice President (Administration) Abu Daud Khan, BASIS Director AKM Ahmedul Islam BABU, BASIS Joint Secretary Enamul Hafiz Latifee, BASIS Assistant Manager (Trade Facilitation) Nadia Tabassum, among others.
