Grameenphone brings free Facebook browsing for all

As part of the ambition to provide Internet for all, Grameenphone is offering free Facebook browsing to all its valued customers. The offer, which is first of its kind in Bangladesh, is part of the run-up to celebrating 5 crore Grameenphone customers.

Free Facebook browsing will be active for any data pack subscription starting from September 15, 2014 until further notice. Under this offer, customers will be able to access Facebook without any data charge from 12am (midnight) till 6pm every day, on all devices. No specific registration or opt-in is required to enjoy the service.

“Grameenphone is approaching the significant mile stone of 5 crore customers in Bangladesh. In the run-up to this occasion we want our customers to enjoy free browsing of the most popular social media platform in the world. Facebook is the best platform to exercise social connectivity and also an important tool in our ambition of Internet for all,” said Allan Bonke, CMO, Grameenphone.

Facebook is the most trending social media service all around the world, connecting hundreds of millions of people across all communities worldwide. A similar trend is picking up in Bangladesh and a large number of internet users see Facebook as the primary online service.

As of today, over 110 million mobile connections exist in Bangladesh and an increasing number is also availing data services. Despite the steady growth in usage, large parts of the population is still unaware of the benefits that internet can bring.

“We believe there is no reason why anyone who has a voice connection cannot also be connected to the internet. With this campaign, we’re taking another step to make it simple and relevant for everyone to go online,” said Allan Bonke.
