GDG Bangla to observe ‘Bangla Translation Month’

With International Mother Language Day ahead, GDG Bangla, a new platform of Google Developers Group, is going to celebrate ‘Bangla Translation Month’ on February. Jabed Sultan Pias and Jabed Morshed, the community managers, have already started working to enrich the Bangla translation module of Google.

Aiming to motivate volunteers throughout the country and to contribute at least two hundred thousand Bangla words in Google Translation, we declared coming February month as ‘Bangla Translation Month’, said Rahitul Islam, media convener of GDG.

He also informed, “Our slogan is ‘Bangla beyond borders’. We already have taken some initiatives and we are going to universities for signing up volunteers with our this journey.”

Earlier, a dedicated Google Developers Group (GDG) for Bangla was launched officially through a program at World University of Bangladesh campus in Dhaka on Wednesday. Two hundred students participated in the seminar titled ‘Bangla Translate-a-thon’.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the World University Prof Dr. Nurul Islam chaired this program and BdOSN General Secretary Munir Hasan, GDG Bangla Manager Jabed Sultan Pias, the academic adviser of World University of Bangladesh Mushfiqur Mannan Chowdhury, Exam Controller Professor A K M Ziaul Islam and the head of CSE department Qazi Hassan Robin was also present among others.

BdOSN General Secretary Munir Hasan said, few others language are much richer in internet in comparing with a widely speaking language like Bangla. So we need to enrich it for our next generation.

GDG Bangla manager Jabed Sultan Pias explained how google translate works and how someone can contribute here. He said anybody can participate at the following link http://translate.google.com/community. Interested volunteers can also gather through the G+ page (http://goo.gl/WuXLKp). The country engineering consultant Khan Anwarus Salam expressed his gratitude for such an initiative. He also showed his will to help this initiative with his level best.

After this session a translation boot camp was held where the top contributor was rewarded with an instant prize.
