Eleven Additional Murder Cases Filed Against Sheikh Hasina

From August 25 to September 1, eleven more murder cases have been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, bringing the total number of cases against her to 105, with 97 categorized as murder cases. These cases have been lodged in various police stations across the Dhaka metropolitan area and district.

Following Sheikh Hasina’s departure from her role as Prime Minister on August 5 and her subsequent trip to India amid a student-mass coup, new accusations have surfaced. The latest cases involve Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajib Wazed Joy, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former Law Minister Anisul Haque, and other prominent Awami League figures. Additionally, former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Habibur Rahman, former DB Chief Haroon Or Rashid, and various leaders of Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League are also named in these cases.

According to affidavits, the plaintiffs accuse Sheikh Hasina and other defendants of ordering or allowing indiscriminate shootings by Awami League members, Jubo League, Chhatra League, and security forces during the quota reform movement held in Jatrabari, Mirpur, Savar, and Ashulia between July 15 and August 5. The shootings reportedly resulted in the deaths of several protesters, including Jisan in Jatrabari, Asadul Haque, Rita Akhtar, and Mizanur Rahman in Mirpur, Mehdi Hassan, Al Amin Islam, Abdul Qayyum, and Abdul Ahad in Savar, and Zahidul Islam, Shaikh Azharul Yasin, and Shaon in Ashulia.

One case, filed on August 31 at Jatrabari police station, details the death of Jisan on July 20. It alleges that Jisan was shot while providing water to protesters and was declared dead upon arrival at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His wife, Rabeya Mishti, reportedly committed suicide on July 29 due to the grief of his death. The case accuses 27 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and Sajib Wazed Joy.

Another case involves the murder of Rita Akhtar, a high school student from Rupnagar Duaripara Government College. Filed on August 29 at Mirpur police station, Rita’s father Ashraf Ali claims that his daughter was killed during a protest in Mirpur on August 5. The case alleges that 700 to 800 activists from various 14-party alliance groups, including Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, and Volunteer League, attacked the student movement. Police, BGB, and RAB members allegedly fired on the protesters, resulting in Rita Akhtar’s death after she was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

These new developments highlight the ongoing tensions and legal battles surrounding Sheikh Hasina and her associates.
