Banglalink partners with Google’s Kormo to launch In-Store Career Development facility

Banglalink, one of the leading digital communications service providers in Bangladesh, and Kormo, a jobs and career development app developed inside of Google’s Area 120 group, have officially launched “Career Development Zones” inside Banglalink Customer Experience Centers across different locations of Dhaka- Mirpur, Uttara, Old Dhaka, Khilgaon, Badda, Mohammadpur. Through this program, both companies aim to help job seekers get access to employment opportunities and professional development resources available on the Kormo app.

The announcement was made by Ritesh Kumar Singh, Acting Chief Commercial Officer, Banglalink during the launching ceremony held at tiger’s den, the HQ of Banglalink, Gulshan, Dhaka. Also present at the event were Gaurav Kakkar, Digital Business & Global Partnership Director, Banglalink and Jess Bayern, Kormo Operations Manager, Google and other high officials of the two organizations.

Under this partnership, dedicated Kormo kiosks will be made available at Banglalink outlets where visitors can learn about employment and career opportunities along with receiving instructions on using the Kormo app. The program is in its pilot phase and available at 3 outlets in Mirpur, Uttara and Old Dhaka. It is expected to reach more stores in Dhaka over the coming months.

Kormo is a new jobs and career development app which is being developed by Google’s Area 120 incubator. Using an optimized algorithm, Kormo pairs candidates with available jobs based on a ‘best match’ model and provides a two-way rating system for employers and employees. Job seekers can sign up, create their CVs and get access to potential jobs and learning resources like curated video content for skills and personal development. To date, it has connected more than 21,000 job placements along with serving over 1,000 employers.

Speaking on the launch of the program, Ritesh Kumar Singh, Acting Chief Commercial Officer, Banglalink said, “There are over 2 million youths willing to enter the workforce each year and their potential is often limited by access to job opportunities and learning resources. Kormo can help address this problem by creating an open, readily accessible digital platform where job seekers and employers can get connected more easily. We are excited to partner with the team at Google for growing the reach and impact of Kormo through our channels. We have always been focused on finding new ways to improve the daily lives of the people of Bangladesh, and we believe that collaboration with Kormo will help us keep fulfilling that vision”

“There are many challenging aspects of building a career such as discovering what suitable jobs are available, creating CVs and getting prepared for interviews. The Kormo app aims to help people in Dhaka get access to job information and career development resources conveniently from their smartphones. We are thrilled to work with Banglalink and leverage the expertise of their team and network to launch programs like this as we grow and continue to improve the user experience of the Kormo app” said Jess Bayern, Kormo Operations Manager, Google.

The Android version of the Karma app is available on Google Play. Currently, it only gives access to jobs available in Dhaka, Bangladesh. For further information about Kormo and Area 120, visit www.kormo.com and www.area120.com.
