Bangladesh National Data Center in 2018

Bangladesh Government will construct a National Data Center in 2018. The government has collaborated with ZTE Corporation to establish a tier-4 data center. The tier-4 certified national data center will be built at Gazipur’s Kaliakoir Hi-Tech park premises with an estimated budget of $194 million.

According to the contract, China’s EXIM bank and the Bangladesh government will spend $154 million and $40 million respectively, for the construction of this data center which will be the 5thlargest in the world. This project will be begin from July 2005 and will be completed by June 2018.

The contract signing took place on Monday at the Information and Communication Technology’s auditorium. Bangladesh Computer Council signed this contract of behalf of the government.

Bangladesh Computer Council’s Executive Officer S M Ashraful Islam and ZTE Holding’s Finance Manager Xiao Zhuan signed the contract.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister, ICT Division, Sham Sundar Shikdar, Secretary, ICT Division, Md. Harun Rashid, Additional Secretary, Md. Jashim Uddin, Director General, ICT Division, Shukanto Kumar Saha, Additional Secretary, ICT Division, Manzur Kader, Joint Secretary, ICT Division, Tarek Barkat Ullah, Director, National Data Center and Zillur Rahim Shahriar, Deputy Secretary, ICT Division, were present at the event.

Others who spoke at the event include Sabin Shrestha, Vice President, ZTE Corporation South Asia, Tian Zun Xian, Director, ZTE Corporation South Asia and Firoz Iftekhar, Director, ZTE Corporation Bangladesh.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister, ICT Division, said that to implement a ‘Digital Bangladesh’ it is necessary to have a large infrastructure to preserve data, while at the same time, the issue of data security is also a vital concern. Hence, the national data center is being established keeping all of this in mind.
