52 trained persons with disabilities came to the fair and got jobs

In order to ensure training and employment in the field of information and communication technology for persons with disabilities Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under the leadership of ICT department organized ‘Job Fair 2022’. 52 trained persons with disabilities have ensure their placement in various organization through this job fair. In addition, 310 people have been shortlisted for employment in this job fair. From this list, interested companies will call for jobs in different phases. The day-long fair was held on March 20, 2022 at the NGO Affairs Bureau located in Agargaon area of the capital.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Mr. Junaid Ahmed Palak, MP inaugurated the fair as the chief guest. Senior Secretary, Department of Information and Communication Technology Mr NM Ziaul Alam,PAA ; Director General, Bureau of NGO Affairs, K.M. Tariqul Islam; Executive Director of CSID Khandaker Zahurul Alam; Chief Operating Officer of Shuchona Foundation Saki Khandaker; Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council Md. Abdul Mannan, PAA presided over the ceremony.

A total of 52 organizations including KFC, Chaldal, Foodpanda, Walcard, My outsourcing, Digicon, Metronet, BACCO, BCS, FBCCI, CCOAB, e-CAB, WE and NGOs participated in the job fair organized by BCC. More than five hundred disabled people from all over the country took part in this job fair. They have submitted biodata to get work on their own merits.

The fair was organized in collaboration with the Center for Services and Information on Disability (CSID), the Bureau of NGO Affairs and the BCC’s “Empowerment of All Persons with Disabilities, including NDDs through Information Technology” project. Moreover, Media Quest Bangladesh, one of the most renowned PR organizations in Bangladesh, is working as a PR partner in this year’s job fair.

Speaking as the chief guest at the fair, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Mr. Junaid Ahmed Palak MP, said, “Ten years ago, most families thought people with disabilities were a burden to society, but with the positive steps of the government and the welfare of technology, that perception has changed. It is no longer seems to be a burden. People with disabilities are the builders of the country like everyone else. They are a great asset to the country. ‘Therefore, it is necessary to change the attitude of the individual and the society. The present government is working for the development of persons with disabilities. We are creating a conducive environment for them in both educational institutions and jobs. The government is arranging jobs according to various disabilities like vision, hearing etc ”

He also added, “Technology is not just for ordinary people, but also for especially capable people. As part of that we are taking on a new project called ‘Emporia’. Where a total of 10,600 people will be trained. Among them Entrepreneur Development 560, freelancers 1000 and 1000 will be under the Job Oriented Internship Program. An e-trading portal will be developed for buying and selling products made only for disabled entrepreneur brothers and sisters online. The activities of the project will be extended to every district including 10 ICT resource centers. To stand by the side of the disabled, not only the government, but people of all walks of life in the country have to come forward in this regard. If the conscious citizens can utilize them, they will become the wealth of the country. ”

President of the Bangladesh Computer Council Executive Director. Md. Abdul Mannan said, “We are organizing this job fair to create mutual relations between the employers and the job seekers. We hope that most of the job seekers will get jobs in the relationship that will be created through this fair. We have a total of 7 regional offices. Through which we make the disabled skilled in different sectors. We have already trained 4,000 persons with disabilities. Out of which more than seven hundred disabled people got jobs. Through these trainings, people with disabilities will be able to play an important role in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. ”

Among the other guests there were the Director General of the Bureau of NGO Affairs, Mr. K. M. Tariqul Islam, Executive Director, CSID, Mr. Khandaker Zahurul Alam. The welcome speech of this function was delivered by Director (Training and Development), Bangladesh Computer Council, Mr. Mohammad Enamul Kabir. Shuchona Foundation COO Dr. Saqui Khandoker also delivered speech in this occasion.

The BCC has been conducting IT training for persons with disabilities with the expert assistance of Shuchona Foundation and CSID. The training is conducted at 7 BCC centers (Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Chittagong, Barisal, Sylhet and Faridpur). Job fairs including ICT training for persons with disabilities, organizing national youth IT competitions, providing assistance in international youth IT competitions and meetings with the various initiatives taken by the ICT department, departmental seminars and campaigns are organized in the educational institutions with the aim of spreading the word among the reputed educational institutions. A project titled “Empowerment of all types of persons with disabilities including NDD through information technology” is currently under implementation from July 2017 to June 2022 to conduct these activities. So far, a total of 1671 persons with disabilities have received ICT training from BCC. In addition, about 2700 more persons with disabilities have been trained under the project. It is to be mentioned that from the job fair organized for the disabled people till 2015, employment has been arranged for more than seven hundred skilled disabled people in ICT.

Country’s leading IT company Synesis IT, has also participated in this year’s ‘Job Fair 2022’ for the disabled persons. In this event, people with disabilities are able to get jobs by submitting their CVs and demonstrating their skills in different fields. In addition to eliminating discrimination against people with disabilities, Synesis IT is also vocal about women’s inequality, with 40 per cent women workforce  in their organization. At ‘Job Fair 2022’, Synesis IT has created a new QR Code to facilitate people with disabilities to submit their CVs at the stall, which will take the user to the CV form web page after scanning. User can go to this page and provide needed information as well as submit CVs.
