UNICEF Bangladesh and Le Méridien Dhaka Join Forces for Every Child in Ramadan

Le Méridien Dhaka and UNICEF Bangladesh have signed an agreement to raise money for children in Bangladesh during the holy month of Ramadan from 5 May to 4 June.
Le Méridien Dhaka will support UNICEF Bangladesh by contributing US$ 1 per customer who purchases Sehri and Iftar buffets through the campaign, entitled ‘Putting Every Child First this Ramadan’. The campaign will enable hotel guests to make donations in three boxes that will be placed in the hotel throughout Ramadan.

“UNICEF works to support the rights of every child, especially the most vulnerable. The partnership between Le Méridien Dhaka and UNICEF during Ramadan will help put every child first by raising awareness on the key issues affecting children in Bangladesh and supporting programmes that addresses basic needs of children”, said Tomoo Hozumi, UNICEF Bangladesh Representative.

Money which is donated will help UNICEF help children in Bangladesh grow to their fullest potential. The partnership will consist of an advocacy campaign to raise awareness of their plight and improve their lives.

‘‘In this Ramadan, we are glad to be part of this noble charitable campaign for the development of the under-privileged children, we all have our parts to play. Development and growth do not happen overnight – rather they gradually bring changes through collective efforts and measures. We are happy to be a part of this cause with UNICEF’ said Constantinos S. Gavriel, General Manager, Le Méridien Dhaka.

Money raised will be used to strengthen UNICEF’s work on core issues, including the reduction of preventable newborn deaths and a lowering of child and mother mortalities. The cash will also help provide better nutrition for children and go towards efforts to reduce levels of stunting.

The fund will also be used to enhance early childhood development and improve the quality of education for all children, ensuring access to safe drinking water for them and their families.  Further, the money will help end all forms of violence, exploitation and abuse of children while simultaneously strengthening opportunities for adolescents, allowing them to become more engaged with society.

Both Le Méridien Dhaka and UNICEF Bangladesh have hailed the collaboration as the start of a sustainable partnership to support the rights of every child in Bangladesh.
It is hoped the partnership will encourage other private sector partners and individual donors to participate in critically important Resource mobilization efforts for UNICEF’s programme of collaboration for children in Bangladesh.
