ISD celebrates multilingualism and cultural diversity of 27 nationalities

To pay tribute to the International Mother Language Day, International School Dhaka (ISD) celebrated it on the morning of February 19, 2019, at their auditorium. About 600 students and staff attended the cultural program.

ISD celebrated various languages from 27 different nationalities of the students who attend the school and commemorated the Bengali Language Movement of 1952. The students and teachers performed songs in Bangla and other various languages, which are the mother tongue of other students from different nationalities. They celebrated the day with traditional dances, drama re-enactments of the history of Mother Language Day, a video about mother tongues, and conducted an interactive session about the evolution of languages.

Regarding the cultural program, Thomas Van Der Wielen, ISD Primary School Principal, said, “This celebration is an endeavor to uplift the value of the mother language among the young students.  Multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way.”
