Grameenphone-Wikipedia campaign to enrich Bangla Content

Grameenphone and Wikipedia are going arrange a campaign to enrich Bangla content in Wikipedia. The campaign was announced in a press conference titled “Wikipedia Regional Contributors Meet” was held today in the Bisho Shahitto kendro.

Starting from November 29, 2014 this campaign will be arranged across 7 regions followed by a Gala event to be held in February 2015. The purpose of this campaign is to build awareness on Wikipedia as a knowledge hub and Bangla language as an internet driver among mass in seven regions that includes Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rangpur, Barisal.

This program aims to engage with the youth population of Bangladesh and share the benefits of Internet in day to day life. A day long program will be held to discuss on internet and its security issues and participants will be trained on Wikipedia Article contribution process. At the end of each session a specific article contribution will be assigned to the participants of each region and individuals with a submission deadline. Three winners will be selected based on the number and quality of articles and will be awarded at the Gala Event.

Marcus Adaktusson, Head of Communications, Zakia Zerin, Head of Digital & Social Media, Grameenphone Ltd and Munir Hasan, President, Wikimedia Foundation Bangladesh were present on the press conference.

The partnership with Wikimedia Foundation is one of the most important strategic achievement to accomplice the “Internet for All” especially minimizing the gap of local contents with relevant information and provide knowledge for internet users.

Grameenphone has been strongly promoting its ambition of ‘Internet for All’ and the agreement with Wikipedia Bangladesh will give another reason to its customers to use Internet and being benefitted from the data connectivity.
